قسمتی از متن فیلم: You know going through this process I had this realization that you know in the early days of planning back you know that you know the early 1900s planning and public health were almost the same thing you know we had a huge communicable disease problem in our major cities and we solved that by

Having planning regulations zoning regulations that mandated light and air access and things like that we put in parks in neighborhoods in cities to help people and so we’ve spent the past maybe 50 or 60 years separating we’ve we’ve planned and engineered and built our city in ways that have I think helped

Create the chronic disease problem that we have now so we we used planning to solve the communicable disease problem that we had at the turn of the century and now we’re facing a chronic disease and that’s so I think using the same lessons that we learn from them and how

We plan and build an engineer city bumpkin at least helped part of the chronic disease problem that we have I think one of the benefits of plan for health is it provided us the resources to do a different type of plan we are a resource-constrained city and so we take

Care of what we have to do by state law which was things like comprehensive land use of planning which has to inform zoning but there are many more ways that I think you can impact people’s lives besides land use and through the plan for health process we were able to have

The resources to go through a different type of process which was not a traditional plan it was more of a plan to help our decision makers both elected as well as the appointed and the staff make better informed more data-driven decisions to actually impact people’s daily daily lives through the investment decisions

That they’re making about pedestrian infrastructure working together in a coalition is something that that in Indianapolis we’ve actually done fairly well we’ve kind of have a national reputation for the public-private partnership that’s how we’ve rebuilt our downtown and done a lot together we just came off of a major collective planning

Or collective impact planning initiative cub play in 2020 and so we really have a reputation of being able to work together across sector you know across agency to do to do things well and so I think we here take that for granted that we can do that I know in other places

It’s not so easy you can’t just call up the chief engineer for the city and expect a phone call back but I think that that’s something we’ve done fairly well and it allows us to kind of broaden our reach and so I think in the planning

World we spend a lot of time or I think we think of ourselves as the planners for the city but in reality there’s lots of people doing planning work outside of the city planning profession and it’s important for city planners to realize that we also have a role of coordinating

Those activities so that everyone that’s doing those activities can have more impact together as a coalition I think it’s about strengthening our existing partnerships I think it strengthened our partnerships especially I think with the Department of Public Works we got some new players I’m at the team to be bought into it

I think perhaps more importantly for me is the fact that we were able to provide city county councillors who are not traditionally involved in partners and I wouldn’t say they were at the table in our partnership we were able to give them additional resources to help them

Do their job smarter and so whether they knew they were partners or not I’m having that document having that process in front of them I think makes their their decisions better and the results in our community much more impactful you know I’m a city planner not to make plans I’m a city

Planner to actually make change happen and to impact people’s lives and so anytime I see a neighborhood that’s improved a street that’s improved at school but now as they will be better connected to their neighborhood around them you know and it is rewarding at the

Same time I also look at the scale of what we still have left to do and it does get overwhelming but it is rewarding to see you know those small steps that we can make with the limited resources that we can now better allocate as part of our plan for health

You know product You
